The Jefferson County General Health District is seeking qualified candidates for a Health Commissioner. The successful candidate must meet qualifications per Ohio Revised Code 3709.11. The applicant must be a licensed physician, licensed dentist, licensed veterinarian, licensed podiatrist or a licensed chiropractor, OR the holder of a master's degree in public health or an equivalent master's degree in a related health field, as determined by members of the board of health.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years' recent experience as a health commissioner or in senior management/ leadership in a health related field. Candidates must have substantial knowledge of local, state and federal public health laws, rules, regulations and standards. Candidates should have experience in local health department budgeting, community health assessments, strategic planning, accreditation and have a good understanding of public health nursing, environmental health and health education programs. Successful candidates should have demonstrated leadership and diplomacy with varied stakeholders; be able to work collaboratively with township and municipal leaders to assure expectations for public health services are met; and serve on health committees as needed.
A valid Ohio Driver's license and successful completion of a background check and drug screening is required.
